These files are used by placing them in the System Folder of your startup volume. They are accessed through the control panel, Chooser, or automatically upon startup. These files cannot be executed by double clicking on them under System 6.
Some inits or cdevs will not work together or with all Macs or all versions of system software.
If you get a "Sad Mac" at boot up or a system crash during operation, remove the suspect init/cdev from your hard drive's System Folder. If you have problems removing it, try booting from a system floppy (a floppy disk with a System Folder on it) and then remove the file from the hard drive's System Folder. To boot from the floppy, be sure to put it into the floppy drive before turning on the Macintosh.

None of the software in this folder is backed up on floppies. Examine the files, and make your own backup copies of the software you wish to save.
